Meet The Captain

​

Captain Rick Philbrick has been sailing the coast of New England for the past 60 years. He has also sailed in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Virgin Islands. He holds a Masters Near Coastal 100 Gross Ton Power and Sail License. Having grown up in Rye, NH (and ancestors here from 1640) he has a vast knowledge of the Isles of Shoals and it’s history.    A day on the boat with Captain Rick will be a fun and educational experience for you and your family.​

A Few Local Connections & Historical Highlights

​

Captain Rick’s family has been tied to the Rye area since the 1640s. Here are a few notable pieces of that history:
 

  • His ancestors fought in both the War of Independence and the War of 1812, including involvement in the Battle of Rye Harbor in 1814.

  • Family members also played a role in digging Rye Harbor between approximately 1756 and 1792.

  • The sailing vessel Tabitha (1849), along with other Philbrick boats, has been moored in Rye ever since.

  • Philbrick craftsmen were involved in the rebuilding of the hotel on Star Island around 1914.

  • Rick grew up on Cable Road, less than a mile from the harbor—where the first transatlantic cable was laid in 1874.​​
